Vongayi Mufara - Amma Birth Companions

Why you should vote for Vongayi Mufara - Amma Birth Companions for the People’s Choice Award

In her time as an Amma trustee, Vongayi has demonstrated immense competence, compassion, and professionalism. As both a former service user and an active volunteer, she offers insight that is guided by an important mix of empathy for others and realism about what any one organisation can do for people. People in the asylum process often feel disempowered and unable to share their experiences, but Vongayi is unafraid to use her voice to highlight the significant challenges faced by all those in the asylum process. She is a source of inspiration for all of us at Amma.

We have nominated Amma's Vice-Chair, Vongayi Mufara, as Trustee of the Year. Vongayi originally came to Amma Birth Companions in 2020 as a client. We supported her through a difficult pregnancy that sadly resulted in the loss of one of her newborn twin sons. In 2021, she joined our Board as a service user representative and in 2022, was appointed Vice Chair. As someone seeking asylum, Vongayi is not permitted to work— but she has leveraged her background in finance, fundraising, and campaigning to become a valued volunteer with several charitable organisations, including Amma.
