Amanda Fleet - Highlands and Islands Students' Association
The Highlands and Islands Students' Association is a membership organisation and charity - tasked with representing all students who study at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and its partners. As an independent body, we're run by students, for students, existing to make students' lives better.
Amanda Fleet, HISA's Sports Development Coordinator for UHI, sparked a profound shift in sports engagement. She has expanded active clubs from 9 to 24, with membership quadrupling to 400. Amanda's emphasis on inclusion broke down barriers for marginalized groups, including women, LGBT+ , and those with disabilities, through innovative initiatives and community partnerships. Notably, she helped form Boccia clubs, providing a platform for students with disabilities to participate in sports. Amanda's outstanding achievements have garnered recognition beyond UHI, where she leads initiatives in LGBT+ sports inclusion and mentors for the Women and Girls in Sport Mentorship Programme.
