Overall aim

The Scottish Government recently published their action plan to end the need for food banks, “Cash-First - towards ending the need for food banks in Scotland”. This groundbreaking plan – the first in the UK - includes critical support for the creation of cash first partnerships in communities across Scotland.

Our joint event will look at how the third sector can collaborate to build a cash first future where no one in Scotland needs to turn to charitable food aid and everyone has enough income to afford the essentials.

Description

With food insecurity across Scotland at record levels, our joint event will provide an opportunity for people working in the third sector to find out more about why a cash first approach is central to tackling poverty and food insecurity in local communities.

We will share learning and experiences demonstrating how third sector actions at the local level can help build a Scotland where no one needs to turn to charitable food aid. We will explore the development of local cash first partnerships, financial inclusion partnerships in six Scottish local authorities and the co-production of "Worrying About Money?" resources and consider how organisations on the front-line can keep working towards a cash first future, at a time when a record number of Scots are struggling to afford the essentials and the need for support is greater than ever.

Our event will consider what a cash first future looks like, in the context of the Scottish Government's national plan to end the need for food banks and will include practical information, discussion and reflection about how we can achieve our goal of a Scotland where no one goes hungry.

We hope your event will also be a valuable networking opportunity.
