Event summary and materials

What was covered in your sessions?

ASH Scotland can support community groups in areas of high deprivation to address smoking in a compassionate, supportive and person-centred way. In this session we covered:

  • How addressing smoking can contribute to reducing poverty and tackling health inequalities.
  • Examples from community organisations who have taken new approaches to support the people and communities they work with towards smoke-free and highlighted the positive impact it has had.
  • Free support, resources and training available to support communities to respond to the impact of smoking and improve the health and wellbeing of people and communities.

Was there any useful feedback or reflection from the participants?

  • All participants reported learning something new from the session.
  • By the end of the session all participants agreed they saw a role for their own services in addressing smoking.
  • Participants described the session as: interactive, informative, thoughtful, genuine, reflective, useful, interesting, important.
  • Participants said that after the session they would:

“Not put smoking and its harms in the back burner. It’s a big issue that is often forgotten about”

“Explore the e-learning and share with my colleagues – explore partnerships with men’s shed as it could be a great link!”
