Claire Wadsworth - Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs

Why you should vote for Claire Wadsworth - Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs for the People’s Choice Award

‘Going the extra mile’ is a commonly used phrase but Claire has truly transformed the lives of young people. Once a young person starts with Routes they blossom and Claire has developed a programme that can help every area of their lives –providing emotional support, helping tackle poverty and encouraging goals and aspirations. With the support of Claire they are now applying for college, entering employment, setting up their own homes – things they never would have believed they could achieve without her support. She has respectful relationships with their families. She never judges and brings hope to their lives.

Routes works with young people aged 12-26 who are affected by a loved one’s alcohol and drug use in East and West Dunbartonshire. Substance use at home can be devastating for young people, and stigma can lead to them being judged and misunderstood. It can also affect their aspirations and future relationships. Led by Claire, Routes is their safe space. Claire works tirelessly to make their lives better. Young people often feel that no one listens, but Claire always focuses on their needs and advocates on their behalf. Under Claire’s leadership the Routes team display extraordinary support for young people.
