Greenspace Scotland was established in 2003 by Scottish Natural Heritage and partners, to provide a lead on local action to improve the environment of Scottish towns and cities and to drive forward the Greenspace for Communities (GfC) Initiative. The GfC Initiative and Greenspace Scotland were established in response to a clearly identified need for change in the quality and quantity of greenspaces across urban Scotland, recognising the lack of quality urban greenspaces and the negative impact on people, places and the natural heritage. In 2004 Greenspace Scotland commissioned Progressive to carry out research to investigate the Scottish urban population?s use of greenspaces and their attitudes towards the availability and quality of them in their communities. This research was repeated in 2007 and again in 2009 to track changes in attitudes over time and to assess the impact developments may have had on the local community. This document outlines the findings from the 2009 research which involved conducting 1,000 telephone interviews on a weekly basis with a sample of adults aged 18+ representative of the Scottish population.
