Abstract

In June 2020, the Prime Minister commissioned Danny Kruger MP - now the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities - to develop proposals to sustain the monumental community response to COVID-19 and set out how civil society can contribute to levelling up

This UK government response to the Kruger report's recommendations is published alongside the Levelling Up White Paper which sets out the government’s wider approach to driving levelling up.

Includes a commitment to develop 'New official measures to understand and track the economic and social contribution of civil society.': "DCMS will work with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to bring together economic data on the value of the social economy - a civil society ‘satellite account’ - so that our estimates more fully reflect the scope of the sector." (Recommendation 1)
