Monitoring poverty and social exclusion 2009
'Monitoring poverty and social exclusion 2009' is the twelfth in a series of annual reports by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the New Policy Institute. The reports assess a wide range of subjects including unemployment, education and health and are built around a set of 50 indicators using official UK government data. This is the first report to be written in an economic downturn, and the recession is the focus of much of the analysis. The 2009 report is divided into five chapters: ? low income ? the recession ? child and young adult well-being ? adult well-being ? communities The chapter on communities contains a section on civic participation and trends in volunteering and includes a number of new indicators such as trust and empowerment in neighbourhoods. Although no longer formally linked to this report, the poverty website www.poverty.org.uk continues to represent an up-to-date collection of the many hundreds of graphs and maps which over the years ?rst made their appearance in one of these reports. The website includes a section dedicated to Scotland.
