Something to believe in: a report on recruitment problems and opportunities in the Scottish Voluntary Sector.
Drawing on existing research, this report examines recruitment in the Scottish voluntary sector and offers practical recommendations to improve it. The research was conducted over summer 2004 and carried out in three stages: ? review of academic, government and commercial literature and data sets ? in-depth case studies of seven voluntary sector organisations from the HR network in Scotland ? analysis of labour market supply issues involving interviews and focus groups with potential employees and other key informants. The research suggests that recruitment is hampered by misconceptions about the sector, relatively poor pay, and a shortage of suitable applicants in all levels in voluntary organisations.
