Despite the plethora of challenges the pandemic brought, alongside the team, Dr Pat was determined to find ways to continue to reach the thousands of children with life-shortening conditions and their families that rely on CHAS for vital support. Dr Pat’s leadership and strength of character has enabled the team to adapt in ways which they never imagined. He’s shown resilience and an unwavering drive for reaching all of those who require CHAS’s help and he’s inspired not only the medical team but all teams in the organisation to ‘keep going’ even in the toughest times.

After nearly 40 years of practicing as a doctor and 26 years working for CHAS, Dr Pat is retiring as Medical Director in summer 2022. In this time, Dr Pat has helped children with life-shortening conditions and their families across the whole of Scotland, ensuring that no one faces the death of their child alone. Dr Pat has been instrumental in leading in the changes to CHAS’s medical service provisions, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic; helping evolve and revolutionise the way in which we deliver care, ensuring we reach every child and family in Scotland that needs our help.
