Music Education Partnership Group - We Make Music Instrument Libraries
Why you should vote for Music Education Partnership Group - We Make Music Instrument Libraries for the People’s Choice Award
The Music Education Partnership Group (MEPG) is a Scottish based charity with over seventy partner organisations covering all the main music providers in the country. MEPG has an advocacy and development role to engage with key agencies in promoting the importance of music and music education in the lives of young people.
We Make Music Instrument Libraries is a campaign to get musical instruments into public libraries so people can borrow them for free, just like a book. We gather donated instruments, service them to a good condition and give them to libraries. The idea started with Tinderbox Collective, a youth music group in Muirhouse/Edinburgh, and has since spread to over 40 libraries in 13 local authorities across Scotland, with 7 new regions joining this year. Libraries are now organising music workshops, gigs and events around the instruments, and the campaign is catching on in other areas of the UK and Ireland.
