To keep products and materials in circulation for longer and reduce the consumption of new goods we must make reuse and repair the first choice and an attractive alternative to buying new. The transition to net zero must include a transformational shift in behaviour and the mainstreaming of reuse. Key to achieving this vision is the development of large-scale reuse facilities. Zero Waste Scotland’s vision is that these accessible facilities will offer a viable alternative to purchasing new goods, incorporating quality second-hand products, repair facilities, options for hiring, sharing and swapping and the opportunity to gain skills. These will be consumer facing centres of excellence in second-hand retail, underpinned by strong business and local authority partnership and Revolve standards, providing training and support.  The approach is multi-departmental and delivers on Scotland’s wider just transition ambitions which turns reuse from a waste issue into a solution for meeting climate change, net zero and other socio-economic targets.  The aim of this funding is to further develop plans for large-scale reuse facilities with a view to being investment ready. If your plans are already at an implementation stage, they encourage you to look at Social Investment Scotland’s ‘Net Zero Transition Fund’, which Zero Waste Scotland co-launched to further reuse activity. As part of wider work to support the development of large-scale reuse projects, Zero Waste Scotland are offering small grants for preparatory and development work to take large scale reuse development plans to the next stage.- This grant will only fund projects that aim to deliver on the vision as set out above and priority will be given to those projects closest to investment/launch. - Grants may be used to allow existing staff within organisations to complete work, or to pay contractors or professional fees. - This grant is for one-off pieces of development work and will support clearly defined outputs including: feasibility studies; options appraisals; property searches; partnership and consortium development including legal agreements and MOU’s; business case development; financial forecasts and marketing plans; detailed project planning; business plan development; architect drawings.- This grant will not fund: building works; capital purchases; projects that are expansions of existing work with no additional activities or partners; projects that do not include reuse or repair; ongoing salary or programme costs.- Grants spend and work MUST be completed no later than 31st March 2024.
