The SCVO Annual General Meeting is coming up in a few weeks time - it takes place on Thursday 22nd November at the John McIntyre Centre, Pollock Halls - and I do hope to see as many members there as possible.
For both Anna Fowlie (our new CEO) and myself it will be our first SCVO AGM, and we’re both looking forward to updating members about events so far this year, and plans for the future months ahead. We’d both welcome your views.
At the Board level, there’s certainly been a lot of change over the last 12 months. In that time five new trustees (out of a total number of 11) have joined the Board; including myself obviously, as SCVO's new Convener.
And due to a further trustee coming to a maximum-term limit, we now have one new vacancy, in addition to which - due to current constitutional rules - we’ve had to regrettably see Becky Duff voluntarily stand down to create a second required vacancy for the forthcoming year; this despite Becky having completed only 2-years of her initial 3-year elected term.
It is the Board’s intention to review the constitution over the coming months to potentially address the issues that have been thrown up by this year’s process. Importantly, there is no intention to alter the maximum 2-term limit of 6-years for any Board Trustee. And any recommended changes would obviously come back for membership approval in good time for next year’s AGM.
Give the very significant changes at both Board and Executive level this year, I am delighted that Becky has decided to seek re-election. Also, as we approach the end of Scotland’s Year of Young People, I would encourage members to consider nominating a young person to join the Board. We will also be doing some promotion work to encourage young people to put themselves forward.
SCVO’s Board of Trustees is made up of committed individuals who help shape the future of SCVO and the third sector. It’s important that the voice of our members is heard on the board, so this is a great opportunity to put yourself forward or nominate someone for election to one of the two positions.
Click here to find out more and download the nomination form. Nominations close at 5pm on 31 October 2018 and we’ll be back in touch in November to let you know how to cast your votes.
If you have any questions about what’s involved please contact email Steven Morton or call 0131 474 6163.
And again, I do hope to see you at the AGM on the 22nd November!
