A Breath of Fresh Air: young people as charity trustees
This report explores young people?s experiences in England and Wales as charity trustees, as well as the impressions that young volunteers - the potential trustees of tomorrow - have of the trustee role. Drawing together findings from the research, the report: ? identifies potential solutions to the barriers that prevent more young people taking up and retaining trustee positions; and ? looks at strategies to encourage more young people to become young trustees. It includes a checklist of questions for charities to consider when recruiting a young person to their board, as well as a bank of resources for anyone interested in involving young people in governance or in encouraging young volunteers. The report is based on findings from six focus groups, two carried out with young trustees and four with young volunteers. All focus group participants were aged 18-24 inclusive. The research was additionally informed by an initial literature review and interviews with sector experts.
