Consultation on Public Sector Equality Duty Specific Duties: Analysis of Responses
In order to streamline and strengthen existing equality legislation, the UK Government introduced the Equality Act 2010. Included in this Act is a new public sector equality duty for public authorities. As in previous equality legislation, the new duty has two parts - a general duty, and provision for specific duties. Under the Equality Act 2010, Scottish Ministers can place specific duties on Scottish public authorities to enable the better performance of the public sector equality duty. In order to help decide what form these specific duties might take the Scottish Government launched a 'Consultation on Public Sector Equality Duty Specific Duties' which ran from 29th September 2009 until 15th January 2010. Respondents were invited to address 39 questions relating to specific duties, and this report presents the key findings from the analysis of the responses.
