Environment and the Economy: Helping Scotland to Flourish
New discussion paper making a strong plea for a national consensus on a new goal of government, with particular regard to the purpose of our economy. Making the case that current preoccupation with economic growth distorts priorities, the paper calls for a shift of emphasis in government?s core purpose (outlined in Scotland?s National Performance Framework) to fully account for both society and the natural environment. The paper is a contribution to the debate about adopting better ways of measuring our success as a society - about re-setting our compass to achieve sustainable wellbeing and take better account of the national and global realities on which our future depends.
