Public trust and confidence in charities 2016
This report presents the findings of the 2016 Charity Commission study into public trust and confidence in charities, conducted by Populus. The research monitors the level of public trust and confidence in the charity sector as well as other key questions. It also explores the issues that affect trust and confidence, variations in results by age, gender, region and socioeconomic group and other key demographic characteristics. Key findings - In 2016, the overall level of trust and confidence in charities has fallen to 5.7 out of 10. This is a significant decrease from a headline figure of 6.7 in 2012 and 2014. ? 33% say that their trust and confidence has decreased - Amongst those who say their trust and confidence has decreased, a third attribute this to media stories about a charity or charities donations. Concerns about how charities spend their money are felt widely, not just by those whose trust has declined.
