The UK Civil Society Almanac 2010
The UK Civil Society Almanac 2010 is aimed at policy-makers, practitioners and academics with an interest in voluntary organisations and civil society. It reports key trends and characteristics on a range of topics, including funding and finance, spending, workforce and employment, volunteering and beneficiaries. The Almanac focuses on how voluntary organisations at the heart of civil society have changed over the last decade, often comparing trends with the public and private sectors. Some key findings from the publication include: ? There are 900,000 UK civil society organisations across a wide range of fields; ? These organisations have an income of œ157 billion; ? The income of voluntary organisations has grown again and is now œ35.5 billion; ? Voluntary organisations earn half of their income, œ17.4 billion; ? Voluntary income remains a defining characteristic worth œ14.9 billion; ? Income from statutory sources has again grown, to œ12.8 billion, much of this growth in the form of contracts. However, over three-quarters of voluntary organisations in the UK receive no funding from government.
