Schumpeter comes to whitehall: Cuts and Innovation in Public Services
The Report discusses the effects of financial strain on the future of public services and how the role of innovation has come to the forefront in the current financial crisis. The UK government has started to reduce public spending and this has serious implications for both those working in the public services and those that depend on them. However the argument that this paper puts forward is that we can utilise the current situation to our advantage by innovating. A radical innovation is required that allows users and citizens to redesign services in a way that is effective and sustainable. The paper goes on to argue the approach and system required for such innovation to take place, discussing changes in policy to cultural changes.
