Research based on the responses of 900 third sector workers.
Key findings
- People working in the sector are overwhelmingly happy with aspects that are within our sector?s control: the work itself, the people we support, the team work and camaraderie, the ability to make a real difference to people and communities, the autonomy, the ability to innovative and be flexible/responsive to needs, and supportive organisations with inclusive values.
- The factors that are creating the greatest dissatisfaction are mainly external or financial pressures: low pay (often due to low rates paid by funders), funding cuts, increased demand, increased pressure on staff, unachievable targets, staff feeling they have to work extra hours, and the pressures created by short-term funding which lead to constant chasing of funds and wide-spread job insecurity.
