- Overview
A session with the Electoral Commission to help voluntary sector organisations in Scotland prepare for the UK general election.
- Description
Voluntary sector organisations play a pivotal role in the electoral landscape, organising campaigns and ensuring the communities they serve are well-informed and prepared to exercise their right to vote. With a UK Parliament general election on the horizon, many voluntary organisations will be considering how to use their voice to highlight their important causes.
The Electoral Commission is the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance in the UK, providing guidance on all aspects of the electoral process. In this session, the Electoral Commission will outline the expectations placed on organisations engaging in campaigning and political activity, highlighting key pieces of guidance and giving tips for ensuring they stay within the rules. They will also share information and resources which voluntary sector organisations can use to support people they work with to participate in the election, including the new voter ID requirement.
Speakers:
- Catherine Heggie, Senior Officer Communications and Engagement (Scotland), Electoral Commission
- Kelsey Gillies, Senior Officer Regulation and Campaigning (Scotland), Electoral Commission
