Ten top tips for restarting fundraising!

As lockdown restrictions begin to ease many organisations will be looking forward to restarting fundraising activities. From street fundraising to bake sales, the relaxing of lockdown rules offers opportunities for charities to bring in much needed funds and reconnect with donors in person. But like so many areas of society, things will look a little different as we all adjust to the ‘new normal’.

Despite the continued uncertainty, there are steps that organisations can take to begin the safe and responsible restarting of fundraising. In our updated Leaving Lockdown guide, you’ll find practical resources and advice on the key areas to consider that will help organisations work through the difficult decisions that now need to be taken.

So what should you think about when restarting fundraising? Remember that some people may still feel uncomfortable attending events or speaking to door-to-door fundraisers and each organisation will need to decide when it is the right time for them.

To help start planning, we have created 10 Top Tips for Restarting Fundraising which we hope will provide a starting point for any organisation in Scotland considering resuming fundraising activities:

  1. Keep up to date with official Scottish Government guidance.
  2. Decide on the right time to resume fundraising for your organisation, thinking about your available resources and type of activity planned.
  3. Carry out risk assessments and be transparent on the measures you have put in place to keep people safe.
  4. Train staff and volunteers to ensure that everyone involved understands the new safety measures and processes that are in place.
  5. When fundraising in public, observe social distancing guidance.
  6. Maintain good sanitation practices.
  7. Community and event fundraising should only take place in accordance with Government guidelines.
  8. Any staff member or volunteer with symptoms must self-isolate.
  9. Continue to adhere to the Code of Fundraising Practice and respect members of the public.
  10. Consider other forms of fundraising you could use, particularly whilst social distancing restrictions remain in place.
