Media Trust and the Digital Participation Charter

“There is a crisis in skills and the understanding of the digital world’s power and potential," said the internet entrepreneur Baroness Martha Lane Fox during her recent BBC Dimbleby lecture. Addressing that skills gap underpins much of Media Trust’s work in the digital training field for charities and community groups across the UK. It is also one of the reasons we have signed SCVO’s Digital Participation Charter. At Media Trust, we believe in the power of media to change lives for the better. So we provide vital communication resources to thousands of organisations and young people around the country. We aim to help charities to achieve their goals by: - providing communications skills and resources - helping them access diverse audiences across all four nations of the UK - harnessing the creative industry talent and expertise of our 30 corporate partners, including broadcasters, digital publishers, press groups and advertising and PR agencies. Our Do Something Brilliant campaign in Scotland, funded by the Big Lottery Fund, includes training to produce high quality and low cost online content. Some examples include the Digital Commonwealth project, the Play on Pedals cycle training scheme, Early Years Scotland and Alliance Scotland. Scotland’s people should have the access to acquire new skills across free digital platforms. Our digital training helps charities learn to amplify their campaigns and their voice in the digital world because everyone – members of the public, active citizens and communities alike – has a right to know how to make productive and creative content using digital tools in their own way.
