Overview

Join SCVO's Growing Climate Confidence community, and create your sustainability story in our simple, fast and fun workshop for any organisation feeling lost and overwhelmed.

Overall aim

You'll leave the workshop with a plan of action that will not only win you more supporters and donors with a compelling sustainability story, but also ensure your organisation is doing the right thing. This will go beyond just surviving as an organisation, helping you to thrive as a sustainability leader. The workshop will help you to:

  • Craft your action plan and gain a roadmap to Net Zero (CPD accredited).
  • Master storytelling to win customers and become a sustainability leader.
  • Uncover hidden cost savings and reduce your environmental impact.
  • Gain a grasp of key sustainability language and understand the nuances between carbon neutrality and net zero.

You’ll leave with a plan to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030, in line with the science on climate change.

Description

Do you want to attract more customers, supporters and donors? Do you want to save costs, and do the right thing at the same time? Are you feeling overwhelmed with sustainability and unsure where to start but know it’s important? Then this workshop is for you!

In this two hour session, you’ll be guided through six key areas of your organisation to build your sustainability plan; by documenting what you've achieved in the past, guided through what to do now, and prepare a plan for the future. By the end of the workshop, you'll know the best next step to take your organisation forward on its sustainability journey.

Funders, donors and customers want to support organisations who are leading the way on sustainability. But to do so they need to know what you’re doing! As part of this workshop, you’ll leave with a clear plan to show your funders and supporters the great things you have achieved already in your organisation to help you win more support.

Who is the event aimed at?

The workshop is ideal for any charity, community group or social enterprise that is keen to make tangible changes and become more sustainable. It is likely to be most useful for organisations with carbon emissions created through their services, premises or operations.

Anyone is welcome to join us, but the biggest changes are likely to be achieved by organisations meeting one or more of these criteria:

  • Spend a lot on energy bills or on fuel - e.g. more than 10% of monthly expenses
  • Own at least one vehicle that is used for transporting goods
  • Ship at least one pallet or 30 parcels of goods a week
  • Produce 10+ bags of waste from processes and daily activities
  • Move staff, volunteers and customers/service users around 10 miles a week or more
  • Have 10 or more visitors to your premises per week
Previous delegate comments
  • "I found the workshop hugely insightful, especially comparing where I thought the highest emissions for my organisation come from to where they actually do! It's a brilliant starting point for building your carbon reduction plan, taking away the scary element of not knowing where to begin or how to find the important info!"
  • "It was so practical and actionable, and the conversations it so easily and naturally sparked were amazingly positive!"
  • "I love how the workshop almost effortlessly helped people to recognise what they'd already done (which we're all very quick to forget!) and so naturally sparked so many great conversations with people sharing their own ideas and experiences."
