Course overview

Struggling to prove the difference your organisation makes? Not sure where to start with a Theory of Change, or worried your evaluation feels like a tick-box exercise rather than something genuinely useful?

This three-part online programme aims to take the fear out of evaluation. Across three practical, interactive sessions, you'll build a simple, proportionate evaluation framework tailored to your own organisation and projects, from planning right through to reporting your impact with confidence.

Overall course aim

By the end of this programme, you will:

  • Understand the relationship between activities, outputs and outcomes, and build a simple Theory of Change
  • Know how to choose practical, proportionate data collection methods that don't overburden your staff or participants
  • Be able to analyse your evidence and communicate your impact clearly to funders, trustees and other stakeholders
  • Leave with the first draft of a working evaluation framework, ready to keep developing
Course objectives

The programme runs across three 3-hour online sessions, each combining short presentations with practical exercises, group discussion, and interactive activities to keep things engaging and collaborative throughout.

Session dates:

  • Session 1 – Tuesday, 9 February, 10am-1pm
  • Session 2 – Tuesday, 23 February, 10am-1pm
  • Session 3 – Tuesday, 9 March, 10am-1pm

Session 1 – Planning for impact: building an evaluation framework

Lay the foundations: what success looks like, how change happens, and what evidence you need to collect. You'll apply the learning to one of your own projects.

Session 2 – Gathering data and evidence: choosing practical methods that work for your organisation

Explore quantitative and qualitative methods, and start developing or refining the data collection tools you'll actually use.

Session 3 – Using evidence and feedback: analysing, reporting and learning from your data

Turn your data into clear, credible evidence, along with practical ways to tell your organisation's impact story.

Who is the course aimed at?

Anyone responsible for monitoring, evaluation or impact reporting in their organisation, whether you're starting from scratch or want to sharpen an existing approach. Particularly valuable for charity and voluntary sector staff who need to demonstrate impact to funders and trustees, but don't have a research background.
