Evaluation of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust Activity in Scotland

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT) was formed in 1999 as an independent charity that operates on a UK-wide basis. The Trust?s mission is to lead the way in coalfields regeneration and to restore healthy, prosperous, and sustainable communities. It is funded in Scotland by the Scottish Government and is the only organisation dedicated solely to the social and economic regeneration of coalfield communities. This evaluation study was commissioned in order to inform CRT's future direction and its work programme in Scotland. It was intended as a wide-ranging assessment of progress, effectiveness, and impact. The study was undertaken between April and July 2009, and included: ? desk research ? stakeholder interviews with CRT staff and trustees; representatives from Local Government, Community Planning Partnerships (CPPs) and Councils for Voluntary Service (CVS); and relevant funders and sponsors ? a self-completion postal survey that received responses from 199 of the 345 projects that have been supported by the Trust since 2005 ? interviews with unsuccessful applicants to the Trust ? facilitated workshop discussions ? case study research
