Statutory funding of voluntary organisations in Edinburgh 1997-2009
This paper, based on a thesis submitted for a PhD at the University of Dundee, is a longitudinal study of 21 Edinburgh voluntary organisations whose aims and objectives complemented the work of the Health and Social Work Department of the City of Edinburgh Council. It tracks the changes which the organisations experienced during the period 1997 to 2009. It examines the relationship which existed between the UK and Scottish Governments and the local authority, and looks at the problems associated with accessing funding from the latter. The paper focuses on the challenges which face both the voluntary organisations and Edinburgh Council. The research was a reflexive piece of work, and whilst a hybrid of methodologies were used, a qualitative approach was generally taken to analyse the findings.
