Scotland’s Third Sector Governance Forum carried out a review of The Scottish Governance Code for the Third Sector in 2022 and would like to thank everyone who responded and gave suggestions on how the Code can be refreshed and improved.
The Code is a statement of best practice for the governing bodies of all third sector organisations in Scotland – charities, community groups and social enterprises. It is supported by SCVO's Good Governance Checkup which offers a guide to how to evidence the principles of the Code in your organisation. Your board can use the checkup to identify areas where you're doing well, check where you can improve and access further resources, and monitor your progress over time.
You can read about the Code review and the recommendations that were made in this final report. Work will begin in 2023 on implementing the suggested changes, both in the Code and the Good Governance Checkup.
