Course overview

How are charities and voluntary sector organisations supposed to handle and deal with Subject Access Requests? Do they even need to? Who can make a SAR? How often can they submit a SAR? Who has to deal with it?

This online course will clarify Data Subject Access Requests for charities and how they should be interpreted using the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and the DPA 2018 (Data Protection Act).

Overall course aim

The aim of this course is for you to get an understanding of Data Subject Access Rights, Subject Access Requests, what you can, and can’t, do with regard to the request and, crucially, whether there are any exemptions that you can use to minimise the disruption to your organisation. Tim Musson from Computer Law Training will guide you through all this, concentrating on:

  • A brief overview and reminder of GDPR and DPA 2018
  • The GPDR principles
  • The Data Subject Rights
  • Subject Access Requests
  • Timescales and (possible) exemptions
  • Penalties for getting it wrong
