Overview

Join us for a session with the Participation and Communities team, and the Scottish Parliament Information Centre team, at the Scottish Parliament. This session will give you a clear, practical overview of how Parliament works and how you can get involved.

Description

In this session, the Participation and Communities Team will guide you through how voluntary organisations can engage with the Scottish Parliament. You’ll build your understanding of how Parliament looks at legislation and how organisations can contribute to shaping policy.

You’ll gain insight into the role of Committees along with simple and practical ways to get involved, including cross-party groups, petitions, exhibitions and events. The session will also explore the Bill scrutiny process, helping you understand how laws are developed and where your voice can make an impact.

We’ll also hear from the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe), who will provide an overview of their work and what makes good evidence.

Whether you’re new to policy and public affairs or looking to refresh your knowledge, this session is a valuable opportunity to build your confidence and skills in engaging with the Parliament.

There will be opportunities for participants to ask questions, and the session will close with networking.

Speakers:

  • Ewan Masson, Participation and Communities Team (PACT), Scottish Parliament
  • Kelly Eagle, Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe), Scottish Parliament
