Introducing SCVO’s new HR and Employment Support Service

Since lockdown hit, we’ve worked together as a staff team at SCVO to do everything we can from our makeshift desks and offices to support the voluntary sector to respond to the coronavirus pandemic. I’m proud of everything we’ve done and I’m even more proud to tell you about a new service we’re launching to help even more.

Back in March we created a Third Sector Coronavirus Hub sharing essential information, guidance and resources that we are still regularly updating now. We’ve worked hard to make the Hub as practical and easy to use as possible. And the fact that web traffic to the support section of our website increased by 1500% tells us just how much the sector needs that support.

Enquiries to SCVO’s Information Service have told us that there is a need for even more support with HR and employment issues in particular. Frequently asked questions we’ve had have focused mainly on furlough, remote working, how to stay connected and employee mental health and wellbeing.

We already knew that many charities and voluntary sector organisations do not have an inhouse HR function. And over recent months, those who do have told us that they’ve found it hard to find reliable, up-to-date, sector-specific support for these unprecedented times.

That’s why SCVO is launching a new service offering vital HR and employment support to voluntary sector organisations in Scotland, to help them manage the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. It is funded by National Lottery Community Fund and will be launching very soon.

As HR Manager at SCVO, I’m part of the team using my own knowledge and experience to pull the service together. We’re also looking forward to welcoming two new members of staff to take charge and drive it forward in the coming month.

Scotland’s voluntary sector has been #nevermoreneeded than it is right now and as an employer of almost 120,000 staff, navigating the work and people challenges created by coronavirus is vitally important. We ‘re looking forward to playing our part in helping the sector face that challenge.

Keep an eye on SCVO’s website and social media to find out the official launch date for the new HR and Employment Support Service.
