Course overview

The past few years have been stressful for everyone, particularly those working in management positions within charities, community groups and social enterprises. With increased demand and decreased resources, the pressure of managing staff, volunteers and services has left many middle managers feeling burnt out. 

SCVO's manager's digital leadership programme is designed to help support you to find and use digital tools, methods and ways of working to:  

  • ease your workload 
  • manage more effectively  
  • develop your team 
  • solve problems faster 
  • create time for creativity
Overall course aim

Session 1: Leadership - examine and understand your approach  

  • identify and reflect on your own working practice and how this can impact on others in the digital context
  • understand the importance of/and implement delegation

Session 2: Culture - hybrid working fundamentals

  • understand and create a collaborative culture
  • increase team communication

Session 3: Project management - understanding agile and iteration

  • understand and explore iteration and agile
  • introduction to Kanban and defining your 'done'

Session 4: Creating space for creativity - understanding digital wellbeing

  • an introduction to digital wellbeing
  • understanding asynchronous and synchronous working

Session 5: Understanding AI and Cyber resilience. Road mapping 1 - creating your next steps

  • Examining where AI can help you in your every day work
  • begin to create your action plan

Session 6: Road mapping 2 - finalising your next steps

  • deliver your action plan

Session 7: Retrospective - the opportunity to reflect on what we've covered and how you are putting it into practice. Understanding what went well, what could be improved, and how to make positive changes moving forward.

Course objectives

The programme centres around five core themes with a final road mapping retrospective session and a final follow-up session: 

  • leadership and delegation - examine and understand your approach 
  • culture and wellbeing - the fundamentals of hybrid working
  • iterative project management - understanding agile methodology
  • asynchronous working - creating space for creativity
  • AI and journey mapping - cementing your next steps
  • retrospective - what's worked and what hasn't
Who is the course aimed at?

This online programme is for those who are new to or have some experience of managing people and projects, who are in a middle manager position and want to improve and enhance these skills. The sessions are geared to those working in the Scottish voluntary sector.

The programme is free of charge but still involves a high level of commitment over the seven sessions

Entry requirements

For anyone who is a manager, a middle manger or an aspiring manager and is an SCVO member organisation.

Other Information

Delivered over 7 sessions, you will participate in 6 x 3 hour sessions, with directed work between each session and 1 x 2 hour retrospective session. The sessions are fully online and will be delivered over Zoom, with links to sessions sent to you once you have booked on to the programme.
