Getting involved through Good HQ

Over the past few months, we’ve been working away at SCVO to develop Good HQ, a new digital platform for people to engage with the third sector in Scotland. We’re aiming for Good HQ to be a place where people can support the organisations and causes they care about by sharing their experiences and discovering new ways to get involved. The first step in that process was to link Good HQ to the Scottish Charity Awards voting process. Service users, staff and volunteers were able to share their stories of the impact the organisation, in addition to simply casting a vote. Through this process, we collected over 200 inspiring stories from supporters across Scotland. Head on over to Good HQ to check out what people said about some of the 2016 Charity Awards winners, including Saheliya, the Friends of Oban Community Playpark and Euan’s Guide. The second step towards achieving our aim was to bring in new functionality to start connecting more volunteers to organisations who need some help. So during 2016 Volunteers Week, we began to search for and showcase volunteering opportunities for each organisation on Good HQ as part of their profile. To see how this works, check out Quarriers page to see some of the opportunities they have available. Good HQ is still in its early stages of development (a beta version in technical terms!), so there’s more to do to create a polished final product. New features and functionality will be added regularly. Next up is adding in information on jobs. We’re keen to get as much feedback as possible to help us make it as good as it can be, so please do get in touch with your thoughts and suggestions. Over the next few months, we hope you’ll join us and start actively encouraging your staff, volunteers and service users to share the stories of the impact your organisations has had on lives and communities.
